How to Turn HD into PVR?
Simply connect an external hard drive to your HD receiver (models 6131 and 6141) to enjoy all the features of a PVR.
A 500 GB hard drive will provide about 60 hours of extra recording time in HD or about 490 hours in standard definition. The external hard drive connects to your HD receiver via USB and will guide you through the set up process.
Many major external hard drive brands are compatible with the 6131 and 6141 HD receivers. The minimum requirements are:
7200 RPM rotation speed Between 40 GB and 1 TB of capacity Holds a single hard drive (enclosures holding two disks are not supported) Plugs into an AC power outlet USB 2.0 connection No sleep mode (cannot power down when idle)
There's no activation fee for this feature - just plug and play.
Note: The external hard drive can only be connected to one receiver. On a different receiver, the hard drive may need to be reformatted. You can move an external hard drive from one receiver to another receiver of the same class (i.e. HD or HD PVR) and on the same account.
If the receiver does not recognize an attached external hard drive, you may need to reset the hard drive to its factory default state. This can happen if the hard drive was previously used with a computer. Please contact the hard drive manufacturer for instructions on restoring factory defaults.
