Satellite Phone Rental Overview
Compare Satellite Phone Networks
We offer a quick overview of the available networks to help determine which satellite phone is best for your needs.
Thuraya
The Thuraya network does not cover North America. As such, we do not offer these for rental.
Globalstar
The Globalstar network is currently undergoing upgrades and service is said to improve in the next few years. In the meantime the Globalstar satellite phone works 40-45 minutes out of each hour when their satellites are overhead. While this network is acceptable for recreational use, ie camping and hiking, we do not offer Globalstar phones for rent as it is not yet suitable for emergency situations.
Inmarsat
Inmarsat is the latest entrant into the satellite phone arena with the iSatphone Pro. Inmarsat offers reliable global coverage (with the exception of polar areas) and aggressive airtime pricing compared to Iridium. With the Inmarsat iSatphone Pro, you need clear views of the southern skies (from the northern hemisphere).
Iridium
When your life depends on it. The choice of the Canadian and US armies for good reason. It works. With a constellation of 66 Low Earth Orbiting satellites, Iridium offers total global coverage, including polar areas. With the Iridium satellite phones, you need clear, unobstructed views of the sky.
