OneWeb Satellite

Currently the connectivity is accessible in all areas over 50 degrees latitude. Latency is less than 50 milliseconds, and speeds are 100 Mbps or more.

OneWeb is a global communications company that is building a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to provide high-speed internet connectivity across the globe. The primary goal is to provide faster connectivity to all parts of the world, even the most remote, with the expected speed of up to 200 Mbps.

OneWeb's primary investors include the UK government, Bharti Global, and SoftBank. The UK government and Bharti Global have each invested $500 million in the company1. OneWeb announced in July 2022 that it would be merging with Eutelsat, a leading satellite operations company based in France. This merger, which is expected to close by the end of the first half of 2023, will combine Eutelsat’s fleet of 36 geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites with OneWeb’s growing constellation of LEO satellites, marking the world’s first combination of LEO and GEO satellites.

As of January 2023, OneWeb had 542 satellites in orbit, with more launched since then, out of a planned constellation of 648 satellites1. OneWeb's CEO is Neil Masterson, a former longtime executive and co-COO at Thomson Reuters, who joined the company in October 2020.

The company is primarily focused on offering internet to government and military infrastructure, businesses, and government bodies. It does not generally sell satellite internet directly to consumer households but is developing partnerships with telcos, broadband providers, and other organizations that sell internet services. OneWeb's internet service is primarily focused on the European and Asian markets for now, with the US market being served through partnerships with US-based telco providers, such as AT&T.
